“I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot”. Rev. 3:15
No one likes lukewarm food or drink that was meant to be consumed hot. Likewise, God does not want us to be lukewarm or almost hot. He wants his children to be on fire for Him. When we are fully and consistently committed to loving God and His Word, we will be on fire for Him.
Daniel was committed to loving God even in Babylon. He held his relationship with God in such high regard that he had a set routine, of praying and giving thanks to God three times a day, and refused anything that would compromise his relationship with God regardless of who was on the throne or what laws were passed. Daniel was not lukewarm because he made time for God daily. He had a prayer altar, a space dedicated to prayer, and for him, that was by a window in his room facing Jerusalem. Daniel kept the fire for God burning in his life by daily prayers and supplication. So, when he was tossed into the lion’s den Daniel did not fear but trusted God who kept the lions from devouring him.
God wants us to be fully committed to Him like Daniel. He wants us fully committed in our love for Him like Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the time of King Nebuchadnezzar. These young men decided to stand against the God-haters, the anti-God, anti-Christ spirit of that time. They refused to bow down and worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s golden image and not even the fiery furnace could conquer or dampen their stand in God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were not cold in their faith in God and they were not just talk. They were on fire for God and boldly told the king, “we are not careful to answer you in this matter”. They let the king know whether God delivered them or not, they would not serve his gods or worship his golden image. What is the golden image you are being asked to bow down to or worship in your life? Are you firm in your decision to serve and worship God only even when it is difficult? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were young men on fire for God and God can not help but show up for those who are on fire for Him.
It is time to catch the fire by making our relationship with God our top priority. Jesus was committed to communing and staying in fellowship with the Father. He would regularly withdraw himself from his disciples and the crowds and prayed to His Father. Sometimes he would get up early in the morning “into a solitary place and prayed”, and sometimes “he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God”. Jesus consistently made time to connect with the Father. Jesus understood He needed to stay connected to the Father and could do nothing without Him.
As followers of Christ, let us consistently make time to spend with God so we can be on fire for Him always.
Dear Jesus,
Thank you for your word. Please help me to be on fire for you like Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Give me more of a desire to pray, to commune and fellowship with you and your Word. Help me not to be distracted by the golden images. Lord God be my king forever and help me to love and honor you even when it is difficult. Thank you.
Amen.
